Dave the Clumber Spaniel | Underwater Photos at Paws to Swim Patterson Avenue
Dave is a very special pup.
Three years ago he came to live with his furever family at the age of 7 due to mobility issues and medical complications.
Dave had TPLO surgery and then a back injury. He needed a home with no stairs and owners who could give him plenty of exercise to help build up his muscles. Enter hydrotherapy at Paws to Swim. After loosing a lot of weight and building muscle in his back legs, at the age of 10, Dave is doing great.
According to his mom, other than the needed potty breaks, he doesn’t get out of bed unless there’s food. He loves long naps and massages, has a stubborn streak (don’t we all though?) and you’ll rarely catch him without something in his mouth. Usually it’s a tasty snack or one of his many stuffed buddies, which he inventories daily. But when it comes to the water, there’s only 1 thing he’ll retrieve.
That red knobby bone.
It came in particularly handy during our underwater session. His ‘pawrents’ brought two and we would trade off. I’d hold it just under the surface and Dave would chase right after it.
I really enjoyed hanging out with this mellow fellow. He’s the first Clumber Spaniel I’ve met and he definitely left a lasting impression.
You can learn more about Dave’s journey through the Clumber Spaniel Rescue & Placement group.
Dave’s underwater session took place at Paws to Swim’s Patterson Avenue location in Henrico. This indoor saltwater pool is huge and provides a darker, more moody background than the bright blue pools at the Rockville location. While all colors of dogs can be photographed in either pool, the contrast of background and coat color is definitely something to consider when choosing which pool location you’d like for your session.
