They’re more than
just a gun dog.

Upland preserve & wild hunt portraiture in Virginia, Georgia, and beyond

Hey there,

sportsman

Man and vizsla after an upland hunt at Little George Rod and Gun, Buckingham, Virginia - Kristen Murray Photography

Through fields and forests, rain or shine, your loyal bird dog is by your side every step of the way. Together, you form an unbreakable bond built on love, trust, training, and unwavering commitment.

Your teamwork is unmatched, each of you relying on the other to make the perfect shot or to locate the scent of feathers. But it's not just about the hunt, it's about the moments in between.

The way they look up at you with admiration, tail wagging, as you take a break back at the truck. The way you completely understand each other without words; a connection forged by countless hours of training and companionship, both in the field and at home.

The soulful bond between a gun dog and their hunter is a thing of beauty — a remarkable demonstration of the power of teamwork, dedication, and love, all culminating in a lifelong partnership that brings out the best in both of you.

It’s time to honor that bond.

Wild Hunts

For when you want a little more challenge and a little less scripted experience.

There are a ton of local WMAs and State Forests in Central Virginia where we can hunt for Quail and Woodcock. . . Grouse too, if we want to head to the mountains.

Preserve Hunt

Pheasants, Chukar, Quail, oh my!

Preserve hunts are great for corporate events, family hunts, and dogs of all ages and steadiness; absolutely perfect for retired bird dogs to relive their glory days.

Dove & Waterfowl Hunts

From wing to wall

While the mounted quail and saved shells tell the tale of a successful outing, nothing captures the spirit of the hunt like a stunning wall portrait of you and your gun dog in action.

Honor your companion bird dog
through custom-designed artwork

Watch how our Signature Museum Canvases are made.

Whether you prefer your bird-dog large and in charge over the fireplace, or their story told through a custom leather album, you’ll be proud to see your dog in action every day. . . even when they’re snoring on the couch beside you.

All sessions come with artwork credit so you’ll walk away with not only special memories of your faithful friend but tangible, lasting artwork to treasure for years to come. We also include professional installation in the Richmond area for any wall piece 40’’ and larger or wall gallery.

When artwork alone just isn’t enough.

Videography can be added to any photography session.

Hi, I’m Kristen

and this is Cedar

When she’s not chasing feathers, you can find her in the cutest sleeping positions, out on the paddleboard, or tormenting our older pup in the backyard. (She still has a lot of puppy energy.)

As a hunter myself, I know how to get the shots you want, while staying low and out of the way so you can get yours, too.

You have questions

I have anwers

  • Oh, don’t you worry about that one bit, I can handle it.

From GSPs in their first year of training to bouncy Springers their first time in the field, to completely finished Brittanys, I’ve successfully photographed bird dogs in the field at all levels of training.

Your dog does not have to be fully finished to enjoy an upland hunt portrait session.

  • Limited waterfowl hunt sessions are availabled for qualified dogs and gunners. Let’s chat to see if we’re a good fit for each other.

  • There are many preserves around Richmond that we’re able to get out into the field.

I’m also available for wild hunts and travel.

There are no travel fees for sessions in the Richmond, VA area.

I serve Charlottesville & the DMV regularly and am always open to travel anywhere in the US.

Please reach out if you’d like a custom quote for travel.

Follow me on Instagram for the most up-to-date travel schedule. @kristenmurrayphotography

If you're in an area where I'm already planning to be, any travel fee will be waived.

  • As soon as possible; I only take a limited number of clients per month and tend to book out 5-7 weeks in advance. Fall/Winter is my busiest time, so if you are interested in an upland hunt, reach out as early as possible. You don’t need to pick the actual date to book a session, just the month and we’ll determine the date once we get a little closer to it.

  • Let’s chat! I’d love to learn more about your vision and help you decide if I’m the right photographer for you.
