Dog-Friendly South Carolina - A Folly Beach Dog and Family Photoshoot

Guess what y’all - I’m not a morning person. Like, at all. There are just a few things I’m gonna roll outta bed before 5:30 AM for. . .

✈️ Flights to somewhere amazing.

🦊 Baby fox sightings,

🦌 A couple of days of deer season.

🏖 🐕 📷 And a sunrise beach session featuring two beautiful Brittanys!

Say hello to Louis and his little sister June.

But first, let’s chat Folly Beach. If you and your pups love the beach, be sure to add this place to your bucket list!

Back in March, I got together with some of my favorite pet photographers across the country for a week-long retreat in South Carolina. Krystal of Krystal Hise Photography, Marika of Soul Dog Creative, and Jennifer of Firefly Pet Photography.

(Yes, Kona came too and I can’t wait to share some of the photos - and video - they captured of us!)

We chose Folly Beach as it’s just 20 minutes south of Charleston, South Carolina, on James Island. It’s a great dog-friendly beach with a laid-back vibe, delicious restaurants, beautiful sunrises, and as we discovered, a fantastic place to find shark teeth!

Ok, so back to the pups — once we booked our trip, I started stalking some Charleston dogs on the ‘gram. I’ve been obsessed with Britts for a while now and when I came across these two bird-dogs on Instagram, I knew I just HAD to get them in front of my lens.

I mean, just look at how adorable they are?

After spending some dry, sandy, cuddle-time on the shore, it was time to run wild and free, splashing in the surf.

One VERY IMPORTANT note when planning a trip to Folly Beach:

While Kona and the pups had full run of the beach in March, as of this writing, Folly beach is NOT open to dogs May 1st to Sept 30th, from 10 am to 6 pm. (If you plan to travel, be sure to check any updates beach rules.) Don’t worry though, that beautiful ‘golden-hour’ (aka best time for photoshoots) is outside of those hours.

Oh, and make sure you check out some of our favorite places to eat:

Stay tuned for more photos from our Hampton Park, Charleston photoshoot with Artemis the Aussie, and a very special shoot of Kona in her favorite place in the world.
