Dogs of Scotland - Glencoe

When you hear “the most magical place on earth,” you might think of Disney.

But I’m here to tell you, it’s Scotland.

All of Scotland is magical, but there’s some really amazing about Glencoe. Nestled in the rugged highlands, this 10-mile-long valley was carved by glaciers and boasts mountains that reach 3,000 feet.

It’s also home to the iconic James Bond Skyfall road; a narrow single-track road with ‘passing areas’ that takes you down to Loch Etive. (It’s also where I lost my camera bag for about an hour, but that’s another story for another day.)

We started our adventure at the Kingshouse Hotel, known for its friendly red deer and hospitality for through-hikers along the West Highland way.

Jasper was the perfect model for this location, with his pointy ears and scruffy fur coordinating perfectly with the wild landscape.

From there, we traveled down the road to photograph some other dogs at the "Three Sisters" (Bidean nam Bian Mountain)

Next up on our Glencoe adventure was the wee white cottage at Altnafeadh. in front of the Buachaille Etive Mor.

This ridge is made up of 4 peaks - Stob Dearg, Stob na Doire, Stob Coire Altruim and Stob na Bròige and as the perfect backdrop for our beautiful border collies.

I’m not sure I’ve ever traveled to a more stunning location. One that speaks to my soul and calls me back. The streams, the mountains, the wild terrain, the weather, everything about Scotland feels like home.

I loved it so much, I’ll be heading back in May 2024 - This time to co-host Woofventure Retreats alongside the Scottish Master of Studio and coffee-obsessed, Ewan Cheyne of Mutley’s Snaps. What is this retreat you ask? Well, it’s a week-long luxury dog photography retreat in the heart of the Cairngorms.

Pet photographers will learn:

  • studio and on-location dog photography

  • how to set up and run a successful session

  • how to pose dogs with their people

  • editing techniques for studio and outdoors

  • business and marketing strategies that work and are easy to implement into their workflow

All meals*, accommodations, and transportation are included during the retreat.

And of course, we’ll be heading back to the glorious Glencoe, to spend the exploring and photographing more dogs in its ruggedly stunning landscape.

*All meals included minus the day we spend in Glencoe.
