Maxie at Midlothian Mines Park - A Fall Photo Session - Richmond, VA Dog & Family Portraits

Australian Cattle Dog posing with Mom and Dad

Oh man, I just love a Cattle Dog! My own pup, Deeks, is the perfect mix of Australian Cattle Dog and German Shepherd, but sometimes it’s hard to tell exactly where he gets some of his endearing quirks from. So when I got to photograph ACD Maxie and her parents at Mid-lothian Mines Park a few months ago, I was over the moon excited!

Read on for some interview-style questions with this sweet pup.

Tell me a little about yourself:

“I’m 8 years old. I was found at a shelter, where I had been for two weeks. Mom liked me because I was pressed up against the glass, trying to meet new people. I've been their unofficial therapy dog, squirrel wrangler, and backseat driver ever since.”

Describe your perfect day:

“I’d start with a long, long walk with mom and dad. Then I would chase a tennis ball until I could barely stand up. After a nap, preferably curled up in bed with mom and dad, I'd want to go on another car ride or sleep on my perch looking out the window. I'd watch dad cook dinner and I’d clean up anything that gets dropped, then get some rotisserie chicken if possible.

I'd end the day with my favorite thing ever, which is playing tug of war with my green rope or chasing my Lambchop around the living room. On my last walk of the day, I would like to stick my face in at least 12 sprinklers!

What do your pawrents love most about you?

“Mom says I am sweet, see loves my tail, and how loving I am. She says I’m her best friend, and I’d have to agree. Dad says I am loyal. I like being affectionate with people that I know and trust. I can be as cuddly and playful as any pup if I'm feeling it. Dad also loves that I keep surprising him with my agility, ability to figure things out, and my loyalty. I just love being right next to both of them.

Silly pup! Deeks does this too. . .

Definitely gets it from the Cattle Dog side.

I had such a great time with Maxie and her parents. And with walking trails, a stunning pine forest, lots of texture, a beautiful pond and wide-open field to run in, and the perfect hill for silhouettes, no wonder Midlothian Mines Park is one of my favorite spots to photograph a session.

The Artwork

Maxie’s pawrents ended up with a gorgeous leather album, which of course I forgot to take a photo of. Apparently I was too excited about the wall gallery they also ended up doing. Click the video to watch the sped-up installation.
